Professor Sani Usman Alhassan is an eminent Medical Doctor of reputable character and integrity. He is a professor of Surgery at Bayero University/Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano. He was the Dean Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, Bayero University, Kano from April 2014 to March 2016 and subsquently became the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Bayero University from April 2016 to March 2018.
He is a 1984 graduate of Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and acquired additional qualifications which include FRCS England 1994, FRCS Edinburgh 1994 and FWACS 2003. He previously worked at Murtala Muhammad Hospital Kano between 1986 to 1988.
Prof Alhassan's early working career came with opportunities of successful career with diverse experience in the United Kingdom where he worked as Anatomy Demonstrator, Medical School, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, U.K. September 1988 to June 1989, Senior House Officer in Accident & Emergency North Tyneside District Hospital, U.K. Feb.1991 to December 1991, Rotating Senior House Officer, Derriford Hospital, Plymouth U.K.1991 to 1994, Registrar and then Fellow in General Surgery Royal Devon and Exeter NHSTrust Hospital, U.K. March 1994 to November 1995.
He was instrumental to success and achievements of various health sectors where he provided effective leadership and promoted inter-professional harmony amongst healthcare professionals for the ultimate benefit of the patients. He became Honorary Consultant Transplant Surgeon, Derriford Hospital, Plymouth U.K, June 2005 to August 2005, Head of Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Bayero University, Kano, 1998 to August 2007 and Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, August 2004 to August 2006
Prof Alhassan is a recipient of many awards and recognitions namely: the First MedicalConsultant AssociationofNigeriaKanoChapterPrizeforExcellence&Renal Transplantation in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Honorary Consultant Urological & Renal Transplant Surgeon, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, June 1997 to date, Examiner West African College of Surgeons, October 2007 to date, External Examiner, Department of Surgery, College of Medical Sciences, University of Maiduguri, July 2007 to December 2009, and October 2014 to May 2019. He attended many conferences national and international with over 30 abridged publications in both national and international journals.
